The Hampton Bays teen went to the Southampton Town Police for help around 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, and said that he was the subject of social media chatter suggesting he was going to shoot up a high school, said Southampton Police Sgt. Joseph D'Arce.

The teen said the chatter said he was going to harm people at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington, D'Arce said.

Southampton Town Detective Division and Suffolk County detectives have determined the threat to be non-credible, he added.

St. Anthony’s High School administration and the Hampton Bays school district administration were advised.

The investigation is continuing to determine the origin of the messaging.
